We visited the famed Mahabalipuram in the Coromandel coast of Bay of Bengal in South India. This is a complex of structures built in between the 7th and the 8th century BCE. The carvings depict scenes from the Mahabharata. Starting with the rock cut structures depicting the chariots -Rathas of the Pandavas. This site boasts of the one of the largest open air rock relief in the world. The nearby shore temple was built closer to the 8th century out of large stone blocks, some as long as 100ft depicting a series of bulls surrounding the temple. Mahabalipuram was founded and established in the 7th century BCE by the Pallava kings Narasimhavarman and Rajasimhavarman.
